No real big smallies but 10 over 2 pounds and one 3 pounder. 6 inches of warer to 6 feet of water. Topwater, cranks, and my goto bait.
100 bass. Lots of fun really worked some kinks out on my presentation and hook set. You get that may fish and you can really focus on what you are doing wrong and correct it. My hook up rate climbed all day. My thumb is sore.

Roger, were you able to measure the temperature of the water where you were fishing? The water temperature further up the Columbia was 55F today, a little warmer than at Bonneville. Sure would be interesting to note whether the Major smallmouth bass spawn is triggered by a lunar event (full moon) or by the water temperature.

Thanks

The area I was fishing was out of the current and shallow. So that area had fish move to the warmer water. Out in the main river in is still in the mid to upper 50s. So target places like rooster rock bay. Back water like mayor park at Rowena. The back water near Stevenson Wa. That is some of the areas that the bass spawn. There were not beds yet but they are going to start fanning out beds in the next day or two. the average sire of the fish I got were 1lbs 8oz. I got mostly males and about 10 females. I did see some strange activity by some bass in the back of coves that looked like the males were trying to herd a female to an area to spawn. Two males were mildly pushing the female in to a shallow area. I'm not telling the spot. I fish it every year and I could get hammered and I would not have day like this any more. But I give you information so you know what I'm doing. Yes some of you know what I'm doing I have shared this with a few. Fish will be in this kind of area for weeks and This is my one and only trip to fish this kind of area. I found this spot through hard work and fishing unproductive water. So I'm trying to protect it. I was the only person fishing this area all day. Over several years I have dialed in the location and timing to be the most productive, I have done my work and I have tried to reduce the work you will have to do. Timing is the biggest key Weather, water temp and time of the year all play a part. I would say temp has the biggest part in when they spawn. I went fishing this week because we have some warm temps for a couple days the full moon is near. The bass do not always spawn on a full moon but they do most of the time.

Nice day! I called in sick friday and had a crank bait smack down too. Gotta love it when they are hitting cranks with a vengence!
