I know a few on here have tried over the years ( I am one) I have landed one shad at the mouth of the clacka on my 7wt it was a blast but I was also casting a dick night spoon hey dont hate. Any ways I will be out once or twice trying to land one on the fly this time. Who else might give it a go? Maybe we can work up a group to go out in a boat and try our luck i know a few spots I am going to try this year we will see rp

I have wanted to try it for the last few years, but with summer steel in the Clackamas, I just can't justify it:D

I know the drill Ryan...if they come into the clack good this year and the water is fishable I will show you were I fish them...and we can find some new spots...

A good way to find them, if they are coming in is to fly fish or drift fish around monkey rock and veterans willows until they can be caught....then its time to move upriver and fly fish the smaller water.

Hiw water will not help as it totaly rules out all possiblity of sight fishing them witch is what I SOOOooo000 totaly preffer.

They are very picky about presentation and so it helps to see them to know if they are realy there....so you can then work on the presentaion and patterns......

I realy want to find them again but its has been a few years since it worked right for me...just some years it works : )

Do shad make it far enough up the Willamette to reach Corvallis?

We could use my drifter, and if the action is slow, head to the lagoon for carp on a fly. They are easy to spot. :thisbig:

If the shad stop at the falls[assumably to spawn?] why would they not stop at bonniville ?

If there any proof such as counts or lack of counts to back that up? just wondering because shad seem to be the adventuring type : P

If you get in the right spots below the John Day Dam, you can pound the shad on a fly rod. Close your eyes and they fight as good as a steelie. Get it down near the bottom with some sparkle and yellow or pink color and hold on. You can also use just a barrel swivel with a siwash hook on it and they don't mind biting that either. Good luck..
