View Full Version : Local Bass Spawning Question?

Even with the warm weather, it's going to take a while for the bass to get active, much less spawn.

As of this morning the Willy was still only 50! The local Columbia, which is historically cooler (from what I've read) was 52 below the dam yesterday. I found some pockets a few degrees warmer but not many.

I've heard of two factors that affect the timing of the spawn. The water temperature over 60 degrees and then the next full moon cycle. So here's the question:

Will the major bass spawn be triggered by the next full moon cycle, next Monday, when the water temperature will be well below 60, or the following full moon cycle nearly a month from now, June 18, when the water is warmer but the timing much, much later than 'normal'?

For largies the time is now. I caught three in a hour of fishing monday morning by the tracks on Lake Oswego. I have a pair nesting as we speak six feet out the back door of my office. The nest is made and today was the first day I can only see one fish.

The fish I caught on Monday were all by the root wads of the "structure" that was created when they added the wood to add
interest to the shoreline.

I was fishing Cullaby at the coast on Saturday and the spawn has come and gone from what I can tell. I hooked five and landed three. All were in the deepest, darkest part of fallen or overhanging trees.

Good Luck!

I'm new at the areas to fish what and where. Where would be a good area to go bass fishing? Large or small mouth?
