Fished yesterday for a total of 11 fish. Five smallmouth, five largemouth, and one trout. Bite is still tough, but getting a little better. Took the largemouth inside the grass throwing Yamamoto Ika's on small leadheads. Smallmouth all came on Roger specials. (3 inch Senkos) Biggest problem is just keeping the trout off the small Senkos. As soon as you feel it's a trout, you'll reel like crazy, but the damn things chase it all the way to the boat. Biggest bass would go around 3 lbs, but most of the fish in the 2lb range. Water still under 60 all around the lake. For all you Hagg experts........where exactly do the smallmouth spawn in this lake. Depth?...Flats?...Creek channels? North end of the lake?

Thanks,
Joe

Good job Joe and good report. The largemouth have two major spawning areas- each with over thirty beds in about a 10 x 30 yard area- kind of hard to explain where they are. They also just spawn wherever they can- there are a few stumps and a few flats, especially on the tapering points. The smallmouth take the best spawning sites and kind of bully the largemouths into taking what's left. Usually it's not a problem because the smallies spawn earlier. Sometimes a largemouth will spawn in a bed that a smallmouth used weeks before.
