This years Steelhead season will go down for me as one of the best. There have been years where we landed more fish ( not many though). Just incredible hatchery returns sent limits home almost daily, and on top of that this year was truly a "Big Fish" year. Often the big guys got the better of us but we got are hands on quite a few.
Here are a few that didn't get away.

Hooking Steelhead nearing the 20lb mark puts a whole new spin on the game of steelhead fishing. Its like your playing defense on someone who can dunk on you anytime it wants. The boat becomes silent, no one wants to to jinx it. But when its landed its like you hit a game winning 3 as the final seconds tick off the clock. You can steelhead fish your entire life and catch hundreds if not thousands and never know that feeling that only a big one can give you. There are just not many fish that size, this year was deffintely one that there were a few more than normal.
As I said earier, limits on hatchery fish was almost a given and with the comibination of every hook up maybe being the holy grail, is why I labled this year one of the "Best" ever. Here are some glory shots of chrome headed to the barbeque

Twelve year old on her first steelhead trip tags out. Casted and hooked every fish by herself, the only way to do it.

I fish steelhead from mid December through the middle of April, all my dates are usually booked out by the time November rolls around so it is important to get in early if you want a date.
Next stop is the Nushagak River in Alaska which I believe has only 4 seats open for the season. We are currently booking for the Astoria salmon season as well as Tillamook Bay. Dates on these season will pretty much gone by July.
