I made a quick trip to Wickiup to see what the fishing was like. I only had three hours to burn so I fished between 6 and 9. It was cold and windy from the get go so I felt right at home. There were surprisingly few people and campgrounds were mostly empty. The water was 43-44 degrees. The good news is I marked lots of fish. The bad news is I only managed 4. And the bad bad news is the fish were small and skinny. The skinniest I have ever seen at Wickiup. The biggest one was 13 inches and looked like a spawned out steelhead. I hope that either A) the fish put on a lot of size as soon as the water warms, or B) someone goes outs and catches some bigger fish.

Lot of fish in the Davis arm and in the Deschutes arm just up from Gull Point where the campgound boat launch is located. Other than one guy jigging who looked like he had some bites, I saw no other fish caught.

Thanks a bunch for the report. I took it as a "Suttle" hint as to where to go later this week. Trying to get free for at least one day to break in my gear for this year. Cleaned the shop today and got cleaned on Tillamook Springers yesterday.

Thanks for the report Brian. Was good to finally meet you in person Sat. Was tough fishing for us and not for others. That's fishing.

Other than one guy jigging who looked like he had some bites, I saw no other fish caught.

I talked with a couple guys that went there this last weekend. They said it was tough fishing, but they still were able to catch a few (both browns and kokes). But I also know they were fishing their tails off too.

I have heard of a report or two of some nicer kokanee being caught. It sounds like there will be a fair number of skinny fish, at least until they fatten up, and some nicer ones sprinkled in.

Fished Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday mornings. Seemed like the bite was very early, caught most of my fish trolling by 730 then tapered off significantly. The fish seem to be quite a bit smaller than last year but did managed a few in the 16-18 inch range.
