I have a fishing rod that I want to change the handle on. It has a Canadian style handle with the forgrip being long and the area behind the seal seat is short. I want to change it up to a normal setup. How hard is this?

Very difficult if you want to replace with a standard reel seat. You would have to strip the rod completely and use the proper sized reel seat or strip the cork and reel seat and use an over sized reel seat slid up the rod instead of down and build up with tape/rod bond. You could then cord wrap the handle and add an overwrap like they use on the long range boats if you want the handle to be more comfortable.

You could cord wrap and clamp the reel on with no reel seat as well.

It's not difficult, just takes time and some money to replace everything with new cork, etc. Your guide spacing will be off for the new setup, but that can be fixed probably without moving to many of the upper guides. I t may just turn out that a guide or two up from the stripper is perfect for your new build and you can start fresh from there with few guide changes needed.
Would help if we knew what your changing it to. Spinning or casting, etc.
