I drove by Meldrum today while doing some x-mas shopping and there had to be 50 cars parked there fishing. The guy I talked to had lost one earlier, and said they were doing "OK". The Willamette is still very muddy, probably the visibility of chocolate milk.

I had a report today from a guy fishing close to shore in about 3 feet of water doing quite well. Seems like most of the guys are fishing a little deep or away from the seams. I bet it's fishier than the catch rate indicates.

Pete - thats interesting you would say somebody was fishing in 3 feet of water. When I was at meldrum watching, I saw a couple guys cast, and they were not casting more than 10 feet from shore.

for winter steelhead when the river is up like it is now, ten feet is probably too far out to be in the fish. with an 8.5ft rod, you can literally stand at the edge of the river and drop your rig straight down into the water and be in the fishiest part of the river.
