Just wondering how fishing for sturgeon has been. I usually fish in the Columbia City area and at Kelly Point, but the day a relative from out of town is here and wants to go fishing, the tides are not all that good for these two areas. I have fished Dodson many times over the year, and figure it would be the best choice providing the wind isn't an issue. The day after Christmas is the day we plan to go. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions. I have heard of the land slide in the area also.

WE HIT IT HARD TODAY FROM SHELL BEACH TO THE MOUTH OF MULTNOMAH CHANEL WITH ONLY FOUR SHAKERS TO SHOW FOR IT. HAD SEVERAL FISH LEAVE AFTER THE FIRST BITE ON SMELT SO YOU MIGHT TRY SAND SHRIMP IF YOU CAN FIND ANY. THE TIDES AREN'T MAKING MUCH DIFFERENCE WITH THE HIGH WATER CONDITIONS. YESTERDAY THERE WERE ONLY FOUR 43" CAUGHT FROM LONGVIEW TO ST. HELENS {FISH CHECKER)

Finn,
When you say the tides are not good, I assume you mean they are incoming. There have been days in the last few weeks at Kelley Point when the incoming was far more productive than the outgoing! The key is to find the deep water inside the mud-line so you're in the Willmette water. I haven't been out in about 10 days, so I can't give you up-to-date info, but I can tell you not to get too locked into timing or technique. Best reports I've heard are smashed smelt without any juice or sand shrimp. Good luck! Leave one for me!

Fished Trogan sunday, all day.Four rods eight undersize.Saw one boat with two keppers. It was a great day to be on the water.Watch the ramp in the morning  it was slick.I put chains on the back and still slid the last twenty feet to the water, better than a cup of coffee! Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. May you all have a great Holiday season. I think I'll go and give a sturgeon or two a special treat tomorrow.

Fished again Monday below Kelley Point and caught 10 sturgeon with two keepers (42 an 48) all on straight squid ($2.97 a 1 lb. package at Owajimaya: stays on the hook for the whole day) bite was consistent throughout day. Beautiful day on the Columbia. End of the season for me as I am retiring my boat...worth more donated than sold! Cheers to a great fishing New Year.
