Hi everyone,
Well, I managed to get out and fish yesterday. Me and a friend hit Eagle Creek up high, hoping to avoid the crowds and maybe get a fish or two. This friend of mine knows a guy who lives between the Hatchery and the second ladders, right up against Longview's land that runs along the creek. We got there at first light and hiked it in, and of course made a wrong turn down what ended up being a deer trail, which took us to a "cliff". Well, we had gone too far to turn back so we decided to slide down the "cliff" on our ***** , which landed us in a swamp. We couldn't go back so we waded through the mud and the muck and at long last popped out near the picknick table hole. There was an ATV parked there, but no one fishing. Although it had probably been fished already that morning we tried it anyway. My friend hooked up on his third cast, but his reel had gotten messed up ascending the "cliff" earlier that morning and the fish broke off as it made its first run. I saw maybe three or four fish laying down in that hole, but no other biters. We decided to hike upriver. On the way we talked to two other guys, the only others we would see that day, who both said they had hooked and lost fish. One of the two was using rather a lot of weight and a VERY bright jig, and I was suspicious he was snagging. The other was using a bobber and jig. Well, anyway, we hiked upriver maybe a mile, then back downriver another mile. I saw maybe half a dozen fish. The water was ideal, but still we only hooked up once. I tried everything from corkie/eggs, spoons, to spinners. My impression is that there just arent great numbers of fish up there yet. However, I would recommend the trip to anyone who wants a little solitude, and there are fish up there and I am pretty sure that if a guy was to really press the issue he could do some damage.
