We spent all day today at Odell. As of 630 this am it was covered with a skim of ice until about 1000. We trolled for macks in the open water until it opened up then switched to koke gear. To no avail we didnt touch a fish and only saw two macks landed and zero on the kokes.
The gal at Odell lake lodge said she never saw a fish on saturday and the fish cleaning station was untouched.
Water temp was 36.6f to start the day and ended at 37.6f. Still alot of snow and access is tough but Sunset cove was open with some parking and Odell lake resort was also but very limited parking with 4' of snow around the lodge.
The fishing could have been better but the weather could not have it was 60f with no wind until about two o clock.

Thanks for the report. It looks like the water has to warm a bit before they start hitting.

Wow! Thanks for the report. 37 degrees!!! Suttle was holding, and dead at 41 degrees for the first 2 weeks after the ramp opened. This weekend it was up 3 to 44 (surface) -- that was enough:D

Thanks for the report RP1. That reminds me of a few years back hitting Odell early in the season just raring to go. Got out on the lake and not only didn't get any strikes (in three hours) but hardly saw a fish "one" on the finder. Wound up packing out to another lake which fortunately had some action. Returned there in two weeks when the water warmed a little and limited out for the trip. Such is life for a koke fisherman!

I would atleast wait three weeks to head up there to camp. Odell lake resort is marginal at best to even launch there is around 4' of snow still at the launch. We ran over to Sunset which is the forest service campground to get the boat on the trailer better beacuse the lousy ramp at the resort is not made for larger boats. That had atleast 5' of snow and only the road to the ramp and minimal parking were plowed.
By Memorial Day it should be ripe for the picking. If your planning on comming from the valley save the fuel until it warms.

Call me crazy (CRAZY!) but i'm heading up Friday. Made reservations for Shelter Cove in February. Wish I would have had a crystal ball. Been a few years since I've been there but know it well. Thinking that jigging might be the way to go because of the water temp but prepared to do it all. Will report back Monday when i get back. This year reminds me of when I was a kid (early 70's) :passout: on those early weekends up at Crescent when it was soooo cold :( but the fishing was soooo fun.
Hope we can repeat it.

I heard from 1 of my customers that one guy got a 15 and a 20 lb mack on opening weekend. I love to fish for kokes in the morning and macks in the pm.
