I will be heading over the mountain to Hillsboro on Christmas day and would like to take my 13 yo. Son fishing on the 26th. What do you think would be our best bet? To haul the boat over and try for sturgeon,
(Son has never caught one) Or leave the boat and fish for steelhead,
(Neither of us has ever caught one)?

Thank you all for making this such a friendly and informative board.

Thank you Jennie for all of your hard work.

Merry Christmas to all of you and I hope you and yours have a safe and happy New Year

Kirk

Otter,
To me I think that the Gators are fun to catch wiether keepers or not. You also have the chance to get into some big gators.

It really does not matter as long as your son has fun.

Otter,
If it was me, I would take the youngun out sturgeon fishing. I think the action will be a lot hotter and there is always that chance in hooking a monster. We have been doing pretty good around the Portland area. Launch out of Cathedral Park and expect to catch some fish

Looks like sturgeon is the ticket, I know of one hole at the mouth of the willamette, however I'm not sure where Frenchmans Bar or Kell Point are.
Thank's for the advise.

Otter,

Kelley point is the mouth of the willamette., and Frenchmans bar is the long stretch of sandy beach on the washington side of the river.
