The boss and I are going to go fish in the AM on the Clackamas. My question is: when fishing up near the dam do you access the river from Milo McIver State Park or do you enter from the Estacada side from Timber Park. Any information is appreciated.

You can do both, although last time I was up there (several months ago), the road in from the estacada side was closed due to construction.
I used to see more people on the estacada side.
MM side is good excersize to hike in, and steep hillsides.
I believe there is a fairly decent trail on the estacada side.
If you get tired of the dam fishing, you can access more of the river in the park. On the estacada side your pretty much stuck there at the dam.
Good Luck, maybe William is right on!

I fished at the dam today and landed three bright native SILVERS. Saw about a dozen more native silvers caught and everything was on spinners and spoons. Fish were caught on both sides of the river. Should be some steelhead but I didn't see any. Good Luck

If you go in on the McIver park side, do you have to pay the park entry fees? Also, from the park side ( South Side ) you can drop down to the hatcher area to fish if you do not want to deal with the steep trail and hike to get to the dam.
Hammerinfish, nice to see someone catching some fish, even if they are Silvers full of eggs.

Keep your hooks wet......

Hey fellas, thats where I'm heading tomorrow. Fishing has been excellent. Every time I've went, I've caught fish. Hit the dam on the south side or the mouth of dog creek.

Why would anyone with half a brain go out to hook Native Silvers when this very stock is the one that is Constraining both our Ocean and in River Fisheries ? Oh you did not know that ? Then please EXCUSE ME.
While I am hear......You won't find many hatchery Steelhead "at the dam" because only the Natives are allowed above. In case you have not heard there is not a harvestable number of "wild" Steelhead in the Clack these days.FOMFIDGAF

Didn't mean to hook silvers, but I'd heard the STEELHEAD fishing had been good BELOW the dam so I gave it a try.

Boys, boys, boys, Don't you know that fish will school up both native and hatchery and go where the booty call is. Why do you think they have fish traps at the dams? It is to weed out the hatchery fish and recycle them

Take for example the John Day River. I have fished this puppy 10 to 20 miles up river. Guess what? I caught hatchery fish  Guess what else? No hatchery on the John Day  Hummmm...Must be strays or lost fish huh.

I believe that it is just fine to fish at the dam. If a native, let it go. If hatchery, fire up the barbi and Que it real nice with lemon pepper.

Before opening mouth be educated a little.

since the cat is out. I have hooked 18 steelhead and 1 silver in the last two days. There are mixed in hatchery also. STEVE what makes you think that they are all silvers?
