I sauntered back up to Wickiup yesterday evening to see what the snow and lake situation was like.

The good news is the road to Wickiup is open, but the road to Crane is not.

There is still quite a bit of snow around, but a lot has melted since two weeks ago. South Twin is about ¼ ice free.

The road is cleared to all the campgrounds, which have also been plowed. However, the section of road from Gull Point campground to the Gull Point boat ramp has not been plowed. Even though the snow was packed, I don’t think I would want to try and get my boat across it.

You can see that some of the access road down to the ramp still has snow as well.

They might not have clear the road all the way because of work being done by the ramp.

That has been the bad news. The good news is the reservoir is completely ice free. But I don’t think it will be easy to get to the ramp due to the snow on the road.

The ramp at the Gull Point campground is open, but there is limited parking.

One brave person had already set-up camp. There are few places that are free of snow and some spots near the water are half flooded.

The “ramp” at the campground across from South Twin is also free of snow.

This is what it looked like Sunday. This morning was just like it but add about 2 inches of snow on the ground.

The work being done is the new and bigger parking lot, and ramp improvement. this may be a bottle neck this fishing season, but a much needed improvement.

I started down the road, but it was muddy with ruts so I turned around before I got all the way there. It is plowed however.

Thanks Brian!!!!

The guys at Sportsman's said "there is no way to get into Wickiup, there is 4' of snow and the lake is frozen over. Maybe they just wanted to keep the "valley" guys out - thanks again for the report and the photos; my plans are back on!

Be careful FF. There is still 4' of snow in the shaded parts of the campgrounds and the parking lots are only partially open. Here's the forecast for Mt. Bachelor which is about 1,500' higher in elevation than Wickiup. They've received 10.25" of new snow in the last 24 hours at Bachelor

Tonight: Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 21. West wind between 14 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. West wind between 7 and 14 mph. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Southwest wind between 3 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: A chance of rain and snow showers before 11am, then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. South southwest wind between 3 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 52.

Looks like the weekend will be nice finally! I'll be in Portland so no fishing for me.

Hey gang, was at wickiup yesterday getting a good spot for camp. It will be a zoo due to the limited parking, snow and the lack of other lakes ready to go but not many of us care :D The dam still has a huge pile of ice piled up and I don't think the snow and cold helped much yesterday/last night. Depending on which weather site you look at it could be warm and sunny or cloudy and rain. So bring coveralls, mr heaters and extra tequila just in case.
See y'all on the water
Brian
