fresh crab

how long will cooked crab stay fresh if its refrigerated? i am up in the sound area and was thinking about buying some for x-mas before i head back south would friday be to early to buy it if we are going to eat it on tuesday?

Crab keeps better if the crab is not backed and cleaned. I am sure their would be plenty of debate on this, but I think after about 5 days they are shot if just kept refridgerated.

Refridgerators have a way of sucking the moisture out of the crab. I would think they would keep better on ice than in the fridge.

4 or 5 days is usually max for crab. I think they stay fresher longer if you keep them on plenty of ice (not in the water). If you get them on Friday make sure they haven't been sitting for long at the store. You can always leave the backs on and freeze them whole for a couple of days.
