Any reports from the Upper Rogue ? I'm heading down to my parents house for x-mas and was hoping to get a little fishing in.
Thanks
John

Filet where are you heading to? I will be down in Trail which is about 10 miles from Lost Creek Dam. All the reports I have heard is that the water is still high but they are doing well, especially at the Hatchery Hole.

My parents live in Gold Hill and my in-laws live in Sams Valley. I'll be staying with the in-laws, so I'm at 25 minutes away from Lost Creek dam. I grew up fishing on the Rogue so I know the area very well. I fished the "hatchery hole" at Thanksgiving but didn't have any luck, nobody else did either.

Filet-O Fish, here is the Medford paper weblink. Maybe you can open the outdoor journal page. There should be a fishing report buried on the page. Good luck! Good luck http://www.mailtribune.com/

Hi Rich,
I lived in Gold Hill for almost 20 years before moving up to Portland in 1992. I graduated from Crater HS in 1986, then went to SOSC and graduated in 1992. What year did you go to Crater HS?
I've fished with Bill too. My father-in-law usally books a trip with him every year.

FOF another option is to call Jack Jermain at the Fishin' Hole in Shady Cove, they are awesome and could give you the skinny. ODFW also just posted the "report" on their site, but it is not real useful.

Fished there last week. Steelhead fishing good, especially the water in McGregor and KC. Hatchery hole has been hit and miss. Some days I hear the bite is good for coho, but I haven't had much luck with them. Water should be good in the whole upper reach by this weekend. Also hear some winter fish being caught from Merlin on down.

Hey John,
Class of 82. Did the whole Patrick, Hanby thing as well. My dad still lives there up on the hill above Hanby.
My personal favorite stretch is Shady Cove all the way to Touvelle. (not in one day of course)
Its always nice to go for a fishing visit. Good luck on your trip.. If you've got some time after you return we should hook up and fish up here. I'm off from the 27th thru the 6th.

My sources tell me the fishing was good before the high water. That is if you want burned out Coho and rather tired S. Steelhead.Chances are 50/50 I will be there tomorrow.I'll post results then.........
Regardless I would float Shady Cove/Dodge to Touvelle.Last I checked the count was just over 5,000 ss.Pretty thin for the Rogue. That was about 10 days ago.CAll the USACE for fish count.
Good Luck

The river is running 3'6" at Grants Pass this afternoon and 10 JTU's.....
That is high but not bad color. It will start to fish at 11 or 12 pretty well.
More showers predicted for Friday but I haven't heard a long term weather guess.
The reports posted above fall into what I have heard in Medford the last two days in various sporting goods shops.
Still coho and s. steelhead being caught from Casey up. An occaisional fresh fish but most getting pretty tired and dark.
A few winter fish have been caught in the Ferry Hole area below Grants Pass by planer and plug fishermen.
Word has it there are a mess of nice winter fish in the canyon and they could hit the Galice area just in time for the Christmas week.
I intend to find out!!

Hey John,
Just curious, I grew up in Gold Hill and Sams Valley through high school. Did you? I've fished the Rogue for years, typically I'l make a trip down and fish with Bill Urie so I can concentrate on fishing instead of rowing. Just wonderering if I might know you.

Filet-o-fish,
I have the Medford Mail tribune book marked on my PC. The fishing report for the Rogue is supposed to be posted every thursday. Unfortunately I have not been able to open up that page. The rest of the paper comes up fine  I have e-mailed them to see if there is a problem. If I am able to open it I will post it on this thread.

Thanks for the information everyone. I will also be down on the Rogue this week. I'll be fishing Griffin Park. If you see a guy with a white Toyota truck and a green Alaska hat on. Stop by and say "Hi" or if you want to go fishing shoot me an e-mail. Marry Christmas everyone.  Don
