Are there steelhead above the hatchery?

There should be fish above the Hatchery. The trap at the upper falls is where they pull out the hatchery fish and only let the natives go above there. Note the regs change up above the falls too.

Pete what do you know about NF Nehalem steelhead? Last I heard you havent fished in years, wasn't it about 3 years ago when the wife told you NO MORE FISHING!! you said "How High Dear"
I havent seen you on here in quite a while. Are you dragging the boat down for X-mas? Maybe we could go feed some crabs a Christmas chicken dinner, and give the big ones that come to the feast a 20 minute hot bath.

O U C H !!!!!!!! Sad but almost true! I resemble that comment, Roy.....
How about crabbing the next weekend, New Years? I'd love to give a few a nice warm bubble bath. I have a cow tag to fill this weekend!

I fished the NF today, the water was a little high but great color. Saw alot of fish caught I hook one on a spinner but lost it. There are natives in the river right now, saw two caught. The fish are very fresh so go get a few.

Hustlerjim,
We drifted from your place down today and never touched a fish. We were the only boat on the river in that stretch. Are all the fish up at the hatchery? Is it still a little high to fish. Water looked ok but still a little off color.

I have heard there is no more drive in access to the river across from the hatchery is this true? Many memorable mornings spent fishing there.

I took my dad to the nf hatchery and he landed two chromers, thanks in part to the nice man who gave him an 1/8 pink jig to use. So if you are out there THANK YOU. After I netted his second fish, I had a chance to walk downstream 150 yrds and land two myself. Lots of fish and lots of pressure. All four of our fish were caught between 10am and noon. Better get there early.
Hey Bigspinner, have you checked this year on the bank access on the back side?We were there a few weeks ago and the road is gone going over there. The culvert that was in the road had been removed and it was a straight dropoff. The hatchery people said the timber company company that owns the land was going to put in a bridge but would not get it done till summer some time.

you are right on that one, you can hike in or you can go higher on that road and find some really nice spots.

Took the wife down this morning. She must be living right or something. Two casts, two fish (9# and 10# hens). She was done by 7:30. Not a bump for me. I guess some days are like that. I seem to have more than my fair share. I guess I go fishing, and she goes catching.
