Have a question or so. I'm going to the lake in May 6th to May 12th. Have never gone there. Pontoon. I know it is a large lake. Any flys in May? Went to East Lake last year. Caught some browns and rainbows with flys but the best was with worms. Do you have any update on the lake? Was going to several lakes but there is so much snow and ice so thought it would be better at Billy Chinook. Would appreciate some feedback. Thanks all!!

I have never fly fished it personally. A pontoon is kind of a waste of time. Nothing personal just lots of miles of water. The only launch that might be OK for flyfishing would be Perry South, targeting the bay and the south shore out from there. As the weather warms the water skiers and jet skiis show up. They don't mix very well with pontoons. Kokanee and bull trout are the main catch. There are rainbows in the Crooked arm and browns in the Deschutes arm. If I were flyfishing in Central Oregon in mid-May this year I would choose the Sheep Bridge area of Wickiup. :twocents:

:yeahthat:Without a boat you are kinda hosed. I feel under gunned in my 16ft sled when its windy. You can catch bulls on flies though. Use big streamer pattern on a type III, cast to shore or parallel with shore and strip strip strip. you have to cover a lot of water to find the fish though, hence your pontoon isn't the perfect choice of a water craft

If you want to fly fish it, you might want to check out central oregon fishing.com. Brett guides it for fly fishermen.

Thanks for the ideas. I was not sure about the area. I go to Hagg Lake and it is the pits some times. Too big and windy and boats.
