I'm purchasing a 25hp merc bigfoot, manual start, LS. 2005 model.
Anyone else have one? any problems or issues.?? They seem to be tough, although rather heavy.
Thanks,
GBS

No experience with the 25, but I've got a 9.9 that's almost 6 years old and never had any problems with it.
I'm assuming this is for your off-shore boat? Just curious why you'd want to go with a non-electric start?
My only issue with the 9.9 is that it can be cold-blooded. Once started, no ploblems. Don't know if the 25 has this issue too.......
Best of luck with it Brad.... :D

nope, it's for one of our rental boats for salmon shores business in alaska.
It will be pushing a 17-1/2' Gregor. I just want something that will get customers out and back, and troll well. Manual start since I don't want customers to rely on a battery. They will be up there to fish and have fun.

GBSBrad, remember DooDee Bear...You trusted me for some $?I bought a 25HP Mercury Bigfoot/electric start, man, what a great engine, top notch...you can even pull start it if you need to. I have had mine 1.5 yrs now, I love it.:excited:

2001 9.9 bigfoot four-stroke. Cold blooded. Very slow troll. Did rebuild the carb last year due to flooding issue and works great. I can troll slower than my previous Yamaha and love the electric start. It'll do!!

I have a 2001 Bigfoot 25hp 4 stroke. It is an electric start, power trim, long shaft. I have had it for about a year and a half and it has had zero issues to date. Great on fuel. I can run around all day on 3 or 4 gallons of fuel with a couple of guys and gear.
My only issue is that mine wont get down to a slow troll (or beat many people to your spot:D) . I have heard that the 2 strokes will slow down better. I ended up adding a 4hp 4stroke Merc kicker and now I can go as slow as I want. You may want to look into a trolling plate. I am not trying to sell you one (but I do have one in the classifieds:D:wink:). I bought the plate for it off ebay but never got around to putting it on so I dont know how well it would work. My concern about the plate is the decrease in steering. I came across a good deal on the 4hp before the plate went on so I am liquidating it.
Overall though the 25 has been a good economical motor for me so far:twocents:

I have the exact same motor on my 15' smokercraft... it's been a great machine for me. I think I saw the 'sold' sign on your motor at Steven's--used it to size my prop wrench.
I've had mine 2 years. Only now am I having the slightest problem getting it to idle down for the troll. I've caught nearly every salmon using it as the trolling motor since owning it. Starts well, runs great. The only draw back is it is heavy-- really weighs down the back of my little alaskan, but since I use it to pull the anchor, the larger format is worthwhile.
The ideal speed for trolling (that I've found) is troll the 25 down as far as it likes, then toss two 25" socks, and you're good to go.

2000, 25hp, 4-stroke- (back off karma monsters!)- FLAWLESS for 8 years- around 2000 hours on it now. Runs on fumes- 6 gallons- trolling non-stop 2- 12 hour days-gas left over.
Troll speed can be adjusted some with prop of a different pitch- I generally troll faster than most though so I got a bigger pitch for a little more speed on the top end. Drift socks slow me down if need be.

I bought a new 9.9 Big Foot with electric start and power tilt. Runs great now, BUT, I did need to take it in for a carb adjustment. Since the adjustment it runs perfect. So my advice is to have the dealer do a carb adjustment before you even take it home. It's apparently a very common problem.

Have a 9.9 bigfoot. 2002. Has run great, everywhere from offshore salmon to Lake Merwin.
