I've got an older (mid 70's) I/O with a 350 in it. It is still too cold to leave the water in it after running it. This is a new boat for me and I have never run it yet.

So how do you drain a motor and outdrive like this. I have only had outboards before.

Thanks

The o/d will drain if you tilt it down.

The water in the engine needs to be drained out of the exhaust manifolds, there should be a plug on the bottom of each riser.

If not equipped with a fresh water cooling system filled with anti-freeze, the water will need to be drained from the block. There should be a small plug on both sides of the block, roughly just below the exhaust risers.

If equipped with Fresh Water Cooling, you do not need to drain the block, but you will need to drain the water out of the "Raw" water side of the FWC system. On my boat, the easiest way to do this is to A) remove the sacrificial anode, or B) remove one of the end caps, from the heat exchanger.

If equipped with power steering, you'll need to drain the water from the power steering cooler. This is basically a small heat exchanger. Remove one the water hose (larger diameter than the hyraulic line) from either end, and the water will drain out.

If you have an OMC, pull water pump drain plug - port side highest one up on the drive and nearest the stern. If no water runs out, then put in a dental pick and make sure the opening is clear - water should run out the drain hole.

If you have OMC closed cooling, then remove the raw water in hose going to the heat exchanger - this will drain the engine side of the water pump circuit and the power steering cooler.

My comments were for later OMC's, now see not applicable to you unit. Not sure how to drain older OMC's

If it were me, I wouldn't worry about it. A few hours at or below freezing won't crack your block. Below freezing nights should be getting fewer and further between, anyways.
