Does anyone know where the idle adjustment is for a 2003 4 stroke 40 HP Merc?

Thanks

Some of the newer Merc 4 stroke motors hide the idle adjust screw under the plastic cover, & you may need to drill a hole thru the plastic to get to it easily...like I did on my 115 Merc, it was no problem, a quick idle adjust, & she run's fine. Good Luck!

Idle speed is controlled by the ecm via the idle air control. Which is the unplugged fitting you referred to. It is not adjustable.

You are correct, however there is an idle/throttle adjust screw hidden, & thats what it took to get my Motor to Idle correct.

Don't know about your motor, mine is black plastic & the Idle/throttle adjust screw is on the port(left) side
