hello, i have a 1996 15 hp 2 stroke merc..the last two times out it starts ok once warm it idles way high..actually couple of trips ago it was stubborn to start then started and revved to about5000rpm..ishut it down .restarted,about 2500rpm shut it down,,restarted and idled fine all daythis last trip ran real high all day i didnt feel like screwing with it on the water so we just trolled with the electric,,just trout fishin,, any help would be appreciated im thinking mixture screw????

I would look at the throttle butterfly, it may be sticking. Working it back and forth with some lube usually frees them up.

is that the flapper inside the hole behind the choke sorry, not much of a mechanic

real common with the mercs to have the butterfly pivot points on outside of each side of the carb to get a little salt in there then exspand and stick the carb or cause erractic problems like you describe, its the stainless parrell rod in the middle of the carb, clean it first with carb cleaner blast the joints and work the carb with your finger full open and close lots of times, blow it off with air at the joints and hit the joints with wd-40 work it lots with your finger "lube it lots of times!" until you feal it move with no effort, lube the pizz out of the carb all over with wd-40 and all over the powerhead and go fishing.
