I am looking for a electric motor for my drift boat and was wondering about the amount of thrust I will need. I want to be able to go upriver and maximize battery life on multiple day floats. I have a 16ft Hyde that rides well in the water so the drag is minimal, but I want to make sure I have enough umph. Is 50lbs enough? 60, 70, 80? Your input would be greatly apreciated.

I would go no less than 80. I like the power of the 101 but not the three batteries you have to carry. My buddy has the 80 on his 16' drifter and it has plenty of power and only two batteries.
Not sure of multi day use though.

If you are set on electric I would not go with less than the 101, otherwise stick with an outboard. You are going to spend a samll fortune setting up the electric. Between the costs of the motor, cables, connectors, batteries and charger you could of bought a nice outboard . In the end, in my opinion, you will be dissapointed with the electric's performance on days when you are trying to make multiple runs through a drift.

Don't go less than 80 (or 74 since its the same power, just different prop design for the 80, I've been told)
If you want real power, and feel like buying, storing, maintaining, and packing 3 batteries, go with 101. You will move!
