View Full Version : Need Help...Steam in Exhaust?

Ok,

My grand parents have a 30' Chris Craft with dual chevy 350's.
The port engine seems to be expelling steam with the exhaust.
Wondering if it is the exhaust manifolds or something else?

Any insight would be appreciated!

I could be internal cracks in the manifold ,blown head gasket , bad water pump , or maybe a stuck thermostat ...
Is it fresh or raw water cooled ?

Another possibility, depending on configuration: blocked or restricted water inlet. Check for sticks, leaves or critters.

Hey good one G S D ...
I usually always go to worse case scenario and over look the simple stuff ...
But then when its simple I'm pleasantly surprised ...:)

It is raw water cooled...i'll check the intake first!
Don't see any oily resedue coming out so i hope it isn't a blown head gasket.

I would guess manifolds? If so, does anyone know where the best place to find parts would be?

Thanks for the input :D

Intakes, risers, most common issues. Check your oil to see if you have extra oil in the crankcase all of the sudden. Also, is it slow to turn over? if so it's the manifolds.

Are the engines overheating?

Some steam is normal. No different than a little steam coming out of the tailpipe of your car when its cold. The water coming out of the exhaust system is hot. Hot water makes steam. If your engines aren't overheating, I wouldnt worry about it.

After some testing and isolation of components, it looks like the manifolds need to be replaced.

Does anyone know where to find some used manifolds?

Thanks for all the tips!
