I just started casting my own weights and was wondering where a person could go to buy bulk lead for melting into weights, any info will be greatly appreciated

Go to the tire stores and they will usually give you their used wheel weights. They melt down real easy

If by chance you have a hard time getting free stuff you can buy ingots of lead from: staminainc.com OR jannsnetcraft.com OR worthco.com OR **************.com OR cabelas.com be careful and stay upwind of the molten lead and handling it, nasty stuff.

Go to a steel scrap yard. They sell it cheap. I can get it at Clackamas Steel for 0.35 per pound. Somtimes the pieces are nice and clean other times they are strange shapes with a lot of contaminants. Not all lead melts and pours the sames. Some of it is real hard and not soft like when you buy lead at the fishing stores.

Do this in a very well ventilated area

Another idea for lead is go buy yourself some lead bird shot. It's not the cheapest way, but at .40-.60/lb (last I bought it) it beats $4.00 for a 24oz cannonball. It melts easy, but it is slightly harder and the antimony is lighter so I noticed my 24oz cast really weighs about 21-22. Same goes for tire weights, etc., if it's not pure lead, it's lighter (unless your using depleated uranium  )
