I parked my 15 ft boat with my 1996 25 hp 2 stroke merc, in the garage after the 2nd time out this year, and looked under the motor a couple days later and found a silver dollar size spillage of dark black sludge that smells of oil and gas on the floor. Very thick in texture. Looks like a little of it has run down and is dripped of the prop.

Should I be worried about this? It was only about 5-10 drops of "sludge", but it didnt do that after the first run this year.

take err to a mechanic or ignore it and see what happens? What would you do?

I dunno what it's called but I get it as well out of my kicker when I idle (read troll) a lot. The outboard exhaust is out of the center of the hub, that's the source.

No big deal but I hate to think that stuff ends up in our rivers. I'd sure like to swap to a 4 stroke to avoid it.

regards, aw

2 stroke kickers are notorious for a little residual gook running out of the exhaust ...
Help the ecosystem by selling it and going to a 4 stroke ...:D

Yeah, not a mechanical problem... unburned 2-stroke oil and gas residue from your exhaust system. Not super pretty. I wish I could afford a new 4-stroke...
