I would like to fish at the hatchery on N Nehalem at the handicapped area. What would be the best bait? My first time at any handicapped area and appreciate any information I can get

Took my wife fishing there yesterday morning. Used a setup of a #1 gami with #12 corkie and a #14 corkie above it. No yarn or bait. 20" leader.
She hooked three and landed two. She was done by 8:30.

Good luck.

If you have favorite drift fishing setups that would be the way to go. Rainbow birdies work well on that river and so does sandshrimp if you fish with bait. The store at the turn off at Hwy 53 has shrimp, be sure to open the containers to find the freshest ones. The water is shallow, 2-4 feet so you don't need much lead. I think the best slot is right near the shore below the platform.

Good Luck mcbidding, the fish are thick right now in that area so now is the time to go. You might want to practice saying "FISH ON"

Just a heads up! You need a ODFW handicap permit to fish from that platform. Otherwise you have to be below the deadline.
