I've never seen anyone help me get out of a snag like Bill or Erickson.
Erickson has this method of unwinding a lure from a tree snag that I still can't get down.
Yesterday, I was snagged. He had showed me this trick before, but I had forgotten it.
When snagged, anchored upstream of your lure, you of course, can boat down until you are below it, and usually retrieve it. But who wants to spoil that water?
This may be an old trick to some, but for me it was helpful. Let out about 10 or more yards of line, so that it loops out below, then give it a big pull like a hookset. Presto! Lure free, lead, hook and all!
Now... about those trees.... Can someone give me a hint on how that is done? Hustlerrjim? Anyone?
While fly fishing with Doug Wilhite, Bill learned some tricks for getting flies out of the field behind him. There is really an art to all of this.
Maybe I'll ask Stan the casting master too. He ought to know.
