I have a new unit that i just installed. Took it out. Works fine. Gps is ok, Color chart is ok.
Sit out on the river for a while on anchor. Stat up the boat and low and behold, no fishfinder/sonar chart. Transducer is still there, i get speed fine and gps ok, but no rolling sonar. just a blue screen with a flashing cursor.
Any ideas????:anyone:

i have a ray e80 and had the same problem as you .i found out after searching another a forum that the digital sounder modules are very sensitive to voltage fluxuations. i fixed my problem by moving the 12 volt power for the sounder module from a shared buss to the main buss right off the batteries. this solved the problem for me . i still will have issues if i spend a lot of time on the kicker with lots of power draining stuff on(the alternators on kickers are small) so running the main and switching batteries are still a option :twocents: (why did i not go with simrad again :passout:)

Regardless of brand of equipment nowadays, you will continue to have problems like you described if you don't address it. You didn't say whether or not you have one battery or two. If you have one battery the problem won't go away. (Unless you shut-off your equipment every-time you start your motor) If you have two batteries, you need an device like a VSR. (Voltage switching relay) The devive would combine both batteries while your motor is running (and the start battery is fully charged). This would keep both batteries charged. When you start the motor again, the VSR sences the motor and disconnects the two batteries and your electronics don't see any voltage drops. THAT is likely your issue. Todays high-tech electronics are more like computers. They don'y like voltage drops that motor create when they are started. Again, whether you buy Raymarine, Furuno, Lowrance--it will happen to them all. :twocents:

Check the input power......like I said.

the dsm module powers up through the display. there is no power cord.
the dsm module can sometimes fail, new or not. unfortunately electronics have a life before we get them. the shipping dept at the manufacture, the forklift that ran into the pallet, the secondary shipper (ups, FedEx, the warehouse staff) that through it into the truck or dropped it.

Chuck, you are correct on the connections via the A60/65. I miss spoke. BUT, I have installed numerous VSR's onto boats (especially with an inboard like he has) that had the exact same issues...If you read his post closely, he mentions his symptom after he starts his motor up. Now, maybe the A60/65 is less sensitive to the power fluctuations, but I would guess his DSM25 is not. Lets not forget they develop quite a chrage for them to send out 500watts. I feel real confident he is experiencing a voltage drop issue. His inboard must draw quite a bit to start, unlike an outboard. I would think if he is using an 1,2 or 1&2 battery switch and had it into the starter motor only feeding everything through his starter bat, that while he was using his equipment at anchor--it significantly reduced the battery's charge and when he went to start his motor, he dropped below the operating boltage of the DSM25 module. Below is an excerpt from the A60/65 manual--it describes what I spoke about.
The equipment is supplied from a separate battery from that used for engine
start. Voltage drops below 10 V and starter motor transients can cause the
equipment to reset.
This will not damage the equipment, but may cause the loss of some information
and may change the operating mode.
Also, there is a series of light (LED) flashing codes to check too. The table is on page 53 of the manual.
Just a thought... :twocents:

I think you might be right- i will dive into it this weekend. The boat only came with the single oddesey gel battery from the factory. i m researching whats involved in getting a second one on line soon.
I have to look at the book to reset the screen/ Settings.
Right now, i get ALL the info on my unit except a rolling graph. I get GPS, Speed, Water Temp, Long/lat Everything.
So , im guessing it went into some sort of default mode and needs to be reset. I will review tonight.
Any thoughts on how i should tie up or wire the batteries? IE switches/ isolators etc?:twocents:
