Power trim question

I have a 2000 Mercury 50 hp. The power trim stops working sometimes
and restarts on its own. I checked the wiring and grounds all look like new. I have found that when it is not working i can manually lift the motor against the trim unit and it seems to shake loose whatever is wrong. I really dont want to pay a repair shop a pile of money for what could be a simple fix. I was hoping someone was familiar with this unit and could tell me what to look for.

Had simular trouble with my Yamaha T8. Tore into the tilt motor and discovered one of the brushed was a little corroded and not contacting the armature. Cleaned it up, added a little dielectric grease and has been working like a charm ever since. There was a thread recently that you should be able to access for more info. Hope it is a simple fix for you. Good Luck!
