I want to have a pack rod built for me and have found a builder near me in Montana. Does anyone know of a good blank for a pack rod for trout?

We need more info, how long in the tube? Need a boomer for lakes or a stream rod? Shore or float tube/pontoon? How big are the trout and how heavy the current? There are Montana builders I know, where are you?

Mainly streams and small lakes. Something I can take on the motorcycle or hike in with. Trout. I live in Big Arm which is about 45 miles south of Kalispell.

Sounds like a 3 piece 6 1/2 or 7 ft will work for you.
I'd get a hold Stan Grace, Helena, MT. gracestan1@bresnan.net.

If your looking for something special ask Stan about the CTS blanks out of New Zealand. I have built and own many 3 piece large trout rods built on these blanks for Alaskan monsters. I carry mine in the rig all the time for incidental steelhead or silver salmon stops on the rivers when I have a few moments. Some of the finest in the world, but the cost is no more than a mid price Loomis.
FishStick4U in Virginia is the distributor for the US and have lots of experience with the different blank series.
All the best to you and yours.

Stan is a nice guy and does some really nice work. Over on Rod building I think there is a rod and reel that he and Putter co-conspired on for DocSki. Stan did the reel seat and handles out of Mountain Junpier I believe - saw the rod in the works last year at the rod building workshop - fine stuff for sure.
