I bought a 50 cc scooter so I could use it for a shuttle vehicle when I drift a river. The cost to own and operate the scooter is going to exceed the cost I would ever pay for shuttles.

- 1981 Scooter $75 (got a great deal, it didnt run)
- DMV cost - lic plates/tags/registration/title (not yet done but, I assume will exceed $50)
- DMV required yearly insurance $102/yr (liability only)
- Helmet $40

This is before I ever fill up the tank with gas, 2 stroke oil, maintenance and keep rubber on it etc......

I'm second guessing the necessity of a scooter for a shuttle. Maybe the bicycle isnt that bad of a deal.

If it wasnt for the insurance I wouldnt feel to bad about it. I guess that pushed me over the edge today, when I found out that cost.

I probably wouldnt need but about 4 or 5 shuttles a year when I wouldnt have somebody with me to leave their truck at the take out. Was I wrong to think I could save a few bucks on shuttles? Convieniance is only worth so much.

Roy, all you need is a fishing buddy. There you go again, trying to make things difficult.

I bet he would "build" a way to hang it off the driftboat rather than leaving it at the take out.

A couple thoughts ... there is value in not having to leave your boat unattended ... it also depends on the shuttle. The 18 mile shuttle from Pine Tree to Mack's Canyon on the Deschutes is anywhere from $75 to $100. The scooter pays for itself pretty quickly there. I've bicycled in my neoprenes on cold, rainy mornings and decided the $7 or $15 was money well spent!

Roy, what you need is two fishing buddies. One to stay with the boat, The other to shuttle you back.

I would say that the one staying behind could start cleaning the boat, but I know you're against that

I for one would gladly pay the price of a shuttle to see Roy ride a bike back to the put in.

Can you say industrial strength tires..........

Roy, if was a machine that could be used off road,
single egg could benefit as well (priceless).

Anyway, do you know what fat women and mopeds have
in common?

How'd you do that Neutron? I was talking about that joke at lunch because of Roy's post.

They are both alot of fun .... Unless you get spotted by your buddies.

Roy, don't know why your e-mail is not working, but I will answer your questions here.

1. Never heard of heavy duty training wheels on a scooter, but think it could be done.

2. The rope with the little handle is used to start the engine, not to tie the scooter to a tree.

3. Yes, you mix the oil with the gas in the same tank.

4. If they bother you that much, go see a doctor, you would look funny riding down the road sitting on a pillow.

5. No, it is a type of fishing lure made by Lure Jenson, not a name for a radical poster. They come in sizes form small (50) to large (20) and many pretty colors.

Hope this helps, your friend...........Steve
