I was cleaning up the dining room, which we use as a fishing and tackle room. I notice that over the last five years, I've bought rods for just about every kind of fishing. I gathered up my rods and stuck them in the rod holder. The only rods that didn't get put away, were my winter steelhead rods...Anyone else have different kinds of rods they use too, or am I the only one that can't pass up a good rod. A rod for every season....

I like to think of it as "A rod for ever Reason"

I have the same problem, never met a good deal on a rod that I didn't like!!

Ii'd say I'm in the same boat. But Ii've been buying better stuff at discounts and seling of some ofm y inferior stuff. But I do have a rod for every reason. From trout fly rods to salmon spey rods, ultralight trout spinning rods to kind salmon baaitcasters. I don't have saltwater gear anymore or tha'd realy add to my collection.

Nothing wrong with a good deal. They don't come along everyday....

I think we're a little different on the north end of the left coast. My Dad helped me to understand this with his reaction to my rod wall in the garage.

We're not afraid to have the right tool for the job.

Years ago, like Dad I had one or two rods. Then I moved to Oregon and discovered that one rod wouldn't cut it.

Trout rod, spinner rod, steelhead (winter and summer) drift rod, Tidewater bobber rod, Sturgeon bank rod, Meldrum bar plunking rod, Salmon boat rod, Surf rod .........

You know?

Can I get an amen?

Let's see, I've got crappie rods, perch rods, smallmouth bass rods, walleye rods, steelhead rods, salmon rods, and sturgeon rods. My motto is "never enough sticks". There is a rod for every fish and a fish for every rod. Although I have landed a six foot sturgeon on a walleye rod with 8 pound fireline. I also landed my first steelhead (a 22 pounder!) on a bass rod using 8 pound mono. That fish changed my life. I had to get divorced, and buy a boat so I could get on with my fishing addiction.

OOOPS, Momma wanted me to clarify that last sentence. I had to get divorced at that time to fish more. I have since remarried and am living happily ever after. I am also fishing more than ever!

I feel so blessed to have access to so many rods.
I love rods, I have rods that I refuse to sell, rods that have so many memories.. rods that make me smile every time I walk into the rod room.
How many people have a rod room, wow.
Snagly places his rods over his canopy bead so he can wake up and look at them every morning...
My wife is great, but won't give up her canopy bed to be a rod rack.

My kids even love rods, they ask grandpa to build their rods in funny colors for.. blue w/ hot met. pink trim, (Jennie would like that one) Black with chart. trim.. you name it..!!

You can't have too many rods..

I just may have too many rods.....including about a dozen live bait-slinging spinning rods/reels all set up with 40 lb Fireline for casting to basking sailfish in Mexico......They've been ready now for about three years. Gotta get to Mexico.

I don't see how anybody can survive without at least 2 or 3 rods for every type of fishing. 2 for plus, 2 for divers and bait, 2 for back bouncing or hog line fishing, a couple with divers for ocean or bay fishing, 2 0r 3 for drift fishing. and at least 3 set up for sturgeon fishing. The nice part of this is never having to re tie, you just put down one rod and pick another. Of course all of these Loomis or Lamiglass rods must be equipped with Calcutta reels. Oh! dont' forget the fly rods at least one or 2 for trout, steelhead, salmon. Also there are a couple spinning rods for jigs, etc. This should only cost the average fisherperson some where between $10,000 and $15,000.

Anybody curious about what I have on my Christmas wish list.

My wife accompanies me alot, and some of the people that I take don't have the proper rod for the species or tactic that we'll be using. So I have 3 or more of just about every type of rod and reel imagineable for NW fishing.

I'd love to have a large quiver of rods. But I'm to poor :depressed:

I've got 1 Lami 8-20 for light applications.
1 Buzz 15-50 for heavy applications.
2 ul trout rods
and 1 flyrod.

My wife has a flyrod and salmon spinning rod that I borrow if I have to. That's all.

When I start making big bucks I'll be able to buy specialty rods though

Years ago when I was younger, I had at least five rods with me on the boat when I bass fished, one for each type of lure (spinner bait, diving plug, worm, jig and surface lure). But when I went steelhead fishing, I stuck to my Lamiglass rod, then I got another one, next a quantum etc etc. The worst is that I can only use one at a time. So last year I sold several of them (the best to my son so I would still have access) and decided to just have a few. I told the better half that no more rods. But then came that 10ft 6inch drift rod for jig fishing. At the get together at the park, Mark Anderson, First Cast Jigs, convinced me that a spinning rod of that same length would work great, soooooo while at Fisherman's Marine, I spied one that just looked sooooooo good. Now please don't tell my wife.

Really, I am through buying rods. However.......
