You don't have to tag them as you would a deer or elk, but just write them down on the punchcard like a salmon or steelhead. They're trying to get some idea of how many are harvested.
They know the commercial catch but could only guess on the sport catch.

This year anyway. Next year you'll have to enter other data like length, weight and what you used for bait.

Boaters are a rich resource for government taxation and data collection.

Now ya tell me..... We got 36 crab and I lost three fingers trying to get tags on those fiesty little pinchers. Just kiddin sinker, probably a bad choice of words in my saying "tag them".
I was just surprised because down here in Oregon we can keep 12 dungies per person with no license required. I should probably keep quiet and not offer ODFW any ideas. Have a great afternoon everyone.

My family lives up in Washington and we have had a little tradition of a family crabbing trip on Hood Canal the day after Thanksgiving every year. Well we missed last year, so I'm not sure when this went into effect, but I was shocked to find out that crab must be tagged in the state of Washington. They have always required a shellfish license, (about $5.00, but this year we were required to buy a combo license/tag, $8.95 for two days, for salmon, stealhead, & crab. All crab must be logged on your tag with location andmethod of capture,(pot, ring or scuba). Regs went on to say that this must be done BEFORE you put the gear back in the water. - 6 crab limit / 2 devices per person.
I'm sure all this is old news to you Washington guys. I just found it interesting, I always check the regs and make sure I'm completely legal where ever I go and this one kind of surprised me. I hope everyone had a happy and safe Turkey day.
