OK I made it about five minutes. I bought GF700M Calstar today. I got the handle ok but now I am lining the reel seat up. The rod has a slight crook in it and it isn't where I decided the spline resides. So it cuts off to the right a little near the end. What I am asking is should I bring it back or live with it? Is it normal or abnormal?

It will straighten out when you put the guides on. Remember, that rod needs 10 guides to be built correctly.

Depends on how picky one is. I am finishing up a 700ML that is the same way and now that the guides are on you can't see the bend at the tip unless you turn the blank upside down(guides facing down). Shouldn't effect performance, more cosmetic than anything :twocents:

Are you sure about the # of guides :argue: :D

In this thread E. Harry talks about spline not being as important and that most builders are now orienting the rod on the straitest axis.

I've done it both ways with a spiral wrap and didn't notice any difference.
As far as taking the blank back, don't bother, the next one will have some thing different with it. Only one I'd take back is if it has a curl q in it like a straightened out cork screw
