Hey Jennie... I know exactly where the ole shack on the L&C is. I still fish there quite often, although on the other side. The shack is still there, although it is in pretty bad condition. The ole wood stove was still there the last time I looked. I have fished the L&C for over 20 years and have fished from tidewater up to Bridge 11. Back in the old days when the gates were open.
I know most of the folks on the river and back when they planted the river I used to get my catch smoked and canned. I would take a couple of canned steelie to all the folks who let me fish on their property each christmas.
I remember the cook from Andrew and Steve's in Astoria used to hang out at the shack. He always did quite well plunking from that shack.
I will be back there sometime after January when the natives start showing up. It is not a big run, but I love the solitude, the view, and the occasional huge steelie.

Oh dang! I would love to go again, if only for a walk!!!!
I remember so many things. Taking the dairy guy... what is his name? A fish for his family so I could keep fishing there. Oh, what was his name! E mail it to me if you remember!
I remember finding dead calves along the river bank. :depressed: I remember working the river up with eggs and back down with Flatfish. Being afraid to duck under the electric wire. Watching the bank erode so that there was very little space TO cross under the wire before you fell into the river 10 feet below.
The excellent riffle above the shack...
I remember sitting down to eat my lunch when I couldn't keep up with my partner. I plunked out my eggs in the pool below the shack. He said, "You'll never get anything doing that!"
Two minutes later he heard me screaming and I threw my sandwich over my back into the mud! FISH ON!!!!
Tee hee!
Big hen!
I remember wondering how come no one was ever in the shack anymore, and listening to stories, told by my fishing partner of the days when it was still lively. The stories told, etc.
A lot of character there. Very few fish left.
I just want to sit in the shack, look around and remember!
:depressed:

Here are some of the names I remember,
Kurt Olsen, He owns the property just before you go into the timber at the upper end of the farming area, His Brother was a truck driver and owned a lower section near Utzingers. Dang I can't remember his name. He passed away from cancer several years ago. They own the big house on the corner just before the shack hole. The Hartels. Son and Father. Utzingers were the first fishable property in Tidewater after crossing the cement bridge as you head south on the road from Astoria. There is a big tree with a huge tractor tire there. There are a few others, but alas I cannot remember all of their names. I have caught many a fish from that river and still do today. I am surprised I never ran into you Jen. Here is a link to see one of those nice fish.

Oh yeah,
Names start comming back..hehe....Kurt Olsens brothers name was Roger. A great guy who worked for the phone company use to fish with me quite often. His name is Bill Swanburg. He is the one who took the picture in the link in the last post. I saw him with his grandkids one day a year or so ago. He had to stop and show off his catch to me. One of the grandkids caught a beauty about the same as the one in the *** . I knew something was up immeadiatly because he had a grin from ear to ear!

...Keep smiling...It keeps em guessing.
