Our prayers are with you  and, for not knowing what you're doing ... you're doing a pretty darn good job! Keep up the good work Jen!

Jen,
Since I'm not frequently inside of my computer, I don't own own one of those grounding wrist straps.
My favorite grounding trick:
1) Like Sinker said, Computer off.
2) Leave computer plugged into a grounded outlet.
3) Remove case cover.
4) The trick: Always have some part of your skin (such as forearm) touching some part of the metal case. That way in the (hopefully) unlikely event of static electricity build up, the discharge will take the path of least resistance through the case, not through any of the chips inside or your new memory stick.

-or- you could buy one of those grounding straps and forget all of the above except a path to ground for you (such as #2).

provided the memory isn't faulty and that it is designed for your computer (yes, some PCs are still proprietary when it comes to memory), the install should go well. PCs really aren't that hard; it's just that they can smell fear and take advantage of you. if all else fails, remove it and you should be no worse off than before.

good luck!
