Well, darn it. As BADLY as I've been obsessed about going over to Christmas Valley/ Summer Lake I just can't justify the cost and risks involved. The weather this weekend is looking pretty bad. SO, off to Florence tonight for a few days for the trout and perch. A bit dissapointed but at least we are still gonna fish! This time of year can be pretty amazing and the weather doesn't sound QUITE so bad down there. Now I'll be in a mad rush to get the boat ready today. Sure hope my batteries are charged!

Do us a favor and check the temp of said lake. Curious how they are looking over there.
Ice fishing is fun, ever thought about that?

I would love to ice fish sometime. I am of midwestern blood (Iowa) and most all of my family still lives there and are die hard fisherman. I've just never really had the opportunity to ice fish yet. I am headed back to southern Iowa in May for crappie so that will be cool. Hopefully the snow will be melted by then! My aunt said that driving down the interstate right now is like driving through a tunnel 'cause of the snow pack!

Well, back from Florence. We had a great time but the fishing was... TERRIBLE! I've fished several of the lakes down there for years and always had good luck. This time we stayed at Mercer Lake resort. It's a bigger lake for that area and looks like it should be a good fishing lake. Maybe it is but we marked very few on the depth finder, didn't see one fish surface, and only caught a few SMALL perch (and we had to work hard for them). The deepest part of the lake we could find was 38 feet. It does have a reputation for largemouth which I believe. But it's probably a bit early. We only saw two other boats while we were there (three days). One of them was a local and die hard Largemouth fisherman. We did see him land one bass about 1.5 lbs or so, and man was he excited! He said it was his first of the year and he had been fishing hard for him. Anyway, no pics because 4 inch perch would be VERY embarassing to post! I sure hope this doesn't turn out to be one of those years that it rains straight 'till June!

PPO can shed more light on Mercer, but at 48F me thinks they ought to be staging in the shallows.
Sorry you didn't do better, another month and that won't be the case.
Thanks for reporting back.
