Not wanting to hi-jack another thread I just started my own. So here goes. Planning a trip to Silver lake in mid May with the Family. I know allot about bass fishing but would really like to get into some Crappie. Probably going to be fishin from the dock but I might rent a boat. What I need is lures and techniques on catching these fish. I really have never fished for them. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

I am not to good at catching crappies but i know you can catch alot of bluegills and perch from the dock and around the endless lilypads.

that time of year may be better to target bluegills. you will catch a few crappie but alot more perch and bluegills then. if you rent a boat, head to timber point or carnine ditch and fish the wood with small jigs, worm and bobber, meal worms, maggots pretty much anything will catch them there.

As to not stray too far from the original question - is May the peak spawn time for bluegills there?

late march and early april is hot for crappie.late april and may is very good for the bluegill. im not sure when the perch spawn but i catch alot more of them in the summer. hopefully Roger hops in here he knows better than most the best times for silver.
i really like to use the smallest gitzit jig you can find i thinks its 1/32. in white chartrouse or ice. for the crappie off the dock drop it in the corners of the dock and let it go all the way to the bottom. very slowly lift the rod until you get bit. then try to stay at this depth. if you dont get bit very fast try to move or cast the jig out and reel in slowly enough to keep it off the bottom. around easter just cast out to shallow water and reel in fairly slow. you wont be able to keep crappie off the hook.
another good idea is to use a very small corky and a bobber stop, and put the jig at about 1-2 feet. then twitch it in.

Big fan of the bluegill fishing @ silver when its really on. I need to make a crappie trip sometime although I cant tear myself away from bass most of the time. The perch in silver have proven too small to be worth my time - will stick to lake wa for the monsters in there!

im also a huge fan of the bluegill in that lake. alot of fun last year we caught hundreds of them in one spot,(also released most of them) they are seriously stacked up big time around timber p.
the crappie are alot of fun as well. you get a ton of tiny ones unless you know where the bigger ones spawn. if you see a older man fishing off the dock in the early mornings talk to him. his name is jon and he will give you a ear full on the crappie. he catches then when others dont.
i have caught some big perch out of silver but most are very tiny and dont come close to lake washingtons.
