Is there a good possibility of catching walleyes from the bank? If so where would I try and what rigs would I use?

In short.....No. Not a good chance.

out of all the bank angling i've done in Walleye infested waters, I've only seen about 4 caught from the bank.

Only times i've seen it, we've been just fishing for cat fiish with worms.

O'sullivan lake in Washington I've seen it, and on the mouth of the Yakima river last year i've seen it.

Walleye is next to impossible from the bank because to find the fish you usually have to cover a bit of water, but if you can find a ledge or drop off 8-20 ft deep within casting distance, I suppose you could throw jigs and walk them back to shore and get a Wally or 2 that way....., if you know some fish are out there. :)

I have fished walleye alot in Michigan and its not impossible. Throwing out a worm harness in the river does produce. I found myself fishing off the docks alot with this method, of course we did not have pike minnows stealing the bait alot just bass.

Does anyone think it would be a waste of time for me to drive up to rufus from portland and bank fish for walleyes. Would I catch anything. I know i can catch big smallies in late march up there so i will probalby go any ways. Should I just stick to bass or at least try for walleye.

I say go ahead and try for some walleye from the bank. If nothing else you will still catch bass and pikeminnows while your trying.

If you want to try stop in at freds marina if its still there and ask about walleye holes on the multnoma channell 10 min west of town. I once caught a very nice walleye a little up river from the marina while I was fishing the bottem with worms trying to catch bass, cats, carp or what ever else will bite one hot summer night as we drank a few sodas I was in a boat but you could have done the same thing from the bank, they will pick up a squriming night crawler off the bottem I have caught all my walleye at dark.

I've seen a number of them caught off steamboat landing in Washougal by shad fisherman. Some big ones, too.

There are few areas that seem to produce from the bank in the lower Columbia. Once in a blue moon (Gosh I hate Cliches) you might hook one as the above articles state.

It is a few hours drive to Pot holes res. in central washington, but they do get excellant fish off the docks at Mar Don Resort. Do a search of their website and get on their mailing list and you can find out about all the fishing there. They get humugus crappie off their dock in the 2# area as well as big bass and large trout. Nice campground and is not far from Moses Lake for a bigger city to shop at.

:dance:A few years back I "Banked" walleye below Rock Island Dam in Eastern Washington. I frequently caught a limit standing on the same rock. Did it for years, then moved from the area. Made a few trips back with the same success. Just need the right conditions. Used spinners tipped with "half" a crawler. I still look at bank conditions for some of the same indicaters.

We catch some in the backwaters at Rufus. Picked up a handful at the extreme west end of the back waters(as far as you can drive) right where the water comes in from the Columbia. Worms on the bottom, some on plugs.
