I would like to by a blank that i can use on Steelies and Salmon. I dont want to spend a whole lot of money as this would be my first attempt at building a rod. Please PM me if you have any. I also trout fish and sturgeon fish so any blanks really would be great. Trade 3 salmon rods also...:meme:

Okay i started reading up on it and i am for sure going to buy one!! Probably just a nice little trout pole for starters. What should o be looking for? Like a good tip diameter, Action, Power, and butt diameter? Please any info would be great!!

If I were in your shoes I might do a one piece light or ultralite trout rod. That would be cheap, quick, and easy and you would learn the basics before you did the bigger rod.

One thing I can recommend is doing a test run on some spare cork. I bought several nice blanks and I wasnt sure as to how to shape the top of the fore-grip. I took and old broken rod and epoxied on 4 sets of 4 rings and then practiced different shapes on my lathe.

You can always cut of some bad/uneven wraps and redo but if you take too much off while turning your cork....thats a real problem. I bought 8 feet worth of 1/2 rings so I while cherry picking the good stuff, I set the cruddy rings aside for that experiment.

Otherwise, dont be afraid of using a long blank (more guides/wraps) or expensive blank, as long as you do the cork lathing and epoxy well, all other problems you may encounter can be redone easily. PS - my first blank was a Sage 3113 and it turned out great!

Get with Angler's Workshop, they usually have a few blanks that can be had a good or reduced reduced prices. They can set you up with everything you need for this first rod.

Take the Woodland exit going North on I5. Get in the left lane and go straight through the intersection (right lane is right turn only). Go about a 1/4 mile, Anglers is the brown wooden building next to Lamiglas

Check out Cabela's Fish Eagle II steelhead blanks. I've built a lot of them. They are under $30, which makes them about the cheapest blank you'll find.

I have built several rods using the Rainshadow blanks. Their quality of blanks rival other high end rods and their customer service is great. http://www.batsonenterprises.com/
