View Full Version : St. Louis Ponds - Trout Fishing?

Read a report that my dad must have pulled off of ODFW's website, saying they stocked some broodstock brookies into the St. Louis Ponds. I have never been there, but thinking of taking my two little kids (4 and 3) for some late winter trout fishing. They got their disney princess and spiderman fishing poles and matching tackle boxes for Christmas, and we just stocked the tackle boxes up tonight at Joe's, but just wondering if there were any locations that might better put us on the fish for such little kids. I never fished there, I hear they stocked pond #1 and #3 with the trout, and I assume that the ponds are all marked with their pond numbers well. Also, hopefully the ponds are a good family destination and not overrun with riff raff (for instance, a couple years ago I found a drug syringe with needle on the ground at that lake near Newport Oregon, I forget the name but they put surplus steelhead in it), so any warnings on that side would be appreciated.

This will be a low key fishing trip, maybe an hour or two max, just to see what we can catch. Any input will be appreciated.

I've only trained dogs there but just park at the bathrooms and follow the crowds. It's pretty relaxing fishing from what I've seen. HT

Well, it was definitely a nice place to fish with the kids, but it was a week since they planted it, so it was pretty slow fishing. I seen most people catching fish catch them from pond 1. I started out in Pond three, and maybe seen one fish caught from there. Probably fish better in later march and April, if the water gets a little warmer, etc.

Thanks for the pointers.

I went there on Sunday. Pretty slow. Had some really weak bites, the fish must have been tiny blue gill or something, couldn't get them to stick. Saw a few come out that were barely 8"'s. Does anyone know if they have stocked it yet or when they plan too??

1000 fish going in this Monday, March 17th... they usually throw a few brooders in too... Monday afternoon would be great fun for kids if you get a chance...
