I would like to give Diamond lake another try now that it been newly revived. When does the ice typically thaw? Is there a time of year that's better to fish. I'm thinking about a early trip this April or May. Is the resort the only lodging?

I have keep a record of ice-off for Diamond Lake since 1990. The earliest was in February and March in 1992 and 2003. The latest was June 1 in 1999. 50% of the time the lake has some open water by opening day in late April. This year??? There is a higher than normal amount of snow on the lake covering a lower than normal thickness of ice. If the snowpack stays on the lake later than average, than it will be a later ice-off than normal.

The best fishing time for Diamond Lake is when you are at Diamond Lake. It is always a great place to be enjoying the outdoors and there is never a day when you will not have a great time fishing the lake from opening day to October.

Thank you loofish. Sounds like you have a eye on the lake. Can I message you now and then to get a report on ice conditions?

I would be glad to give you any update I have. Last week there was about 3 feet of snow and ice on the lake itself before it snowed the last couple days.

The boat speed limit for opening day with ice or no ice will be dropping back to 10 mph this year with the proposal in front of the Marine Board for their April 7th meeting. Public comments are being accepted until March 28. I don't think that pertains to snowmobiles!:)
