I came back from Arizona last night and went to get my baot out tonight only to find that some ******* that this socitey produced had stoled my motor off my boat. The damn thing was bolted on and everything. I can not believe it! I had next week off and I had planned to mabey go to Tillamook for a few days. Not now no motor. So if you see any adds for a used 25 hp yamaha electric start 4 stroke being sold let me know.

Now I get to go see how good my insurance company really is. I bet this is going to be a hassle that never ends.

The jerks even cut the gas line and I have 6 gallons mikex with 50 gallons of water soaked into all the flotation foam under the floor of the boat. If you light a match the boat will be on the moon.

That really sucks sorry to hear about that. If it makes you feel any better about 4 weeks ago I was fishing on the clackamas only to come back to a car that was broken in and $500 worth of cd's and a $600 stereo gone. And I didn't even get a fish.

I have not even added it up yet. I just finished with the police report.

Lets see:
Motor 3,900.
dept finder 400
heater / tank 80
tackle box 400
battery 80

Plus all the gas in my boat melted the rino lining that I had sprayed on. Now it looks like Sh@@@#t! Not to mention that I probally will never get the gas smell out of my boat. I probally will have a perma skunk on the boat because of the gas slick out the back.
All my wiring has to be re wired and re switched. Drug addicted cheap fix people suck.

Talons - I am sorry to hear about your troubles.

I had a 7.5 hp honda kicker stole off the back of my boat a few years ago. I found out my insurance bites.

Homeowners insurance said I didnt have a watercraft rider. I argued it wasnt a watercraft I lost, it was motor, not all that different from my lawnmower. They said watercraft, go away!! I tried to get my boat insurance to cover it, and they said I only had my main motor and boat covered, go away.

I went out and peened (many times) all the threads on the bolts to the big motor. Nobodies gonna get it off without working up a sweat.

I hope you have better luck than I did.

That stinks big time. I hate thieves. The lowest form of life for sure.

Just hope your insurance covers your lose. When you find out, could you post the outcome. This is a good reminder for all of us to re-check our insurance coverage for theft.

Best of luck Talons,

Gregg

Talons,
I'm sorry to hear about your predicament. A careless ash could make for a new boat. Stranger things have happened. Karma has a way of fixing things in the end for the perps.

Talons,

Sorry to hear about the motor. But, that gas in the flotation foam would really pi-s me off. I had a 15HP Merc stolen a few years ago. This is what I found out. The boat was sitting in the drive way. Someone took bolt cutters and cut the lock off. I contacted my homeowners and they said it wasn't covered. I went round and round with them but with no luck. I contacted my boat insurance and they said my big motor was covered but I did not have any additional coverage for the little motor. So who gets to replace the Motor? Me
I have spoken with other people that have been in the same situation I have. Basically, it comes down to this. If you want coverage for your kicker motor, you need to contact your boat insurance company and pay the extra to have it covered. Good Luck.

Talons...sorry to hear of your loss. I'm also a member of the "stolen motor" club...had a 15 hp Evinrude stloen off my sled. Worst part...is I suspected it was a "friend" who did it..tho I couldn't prove it.

I felt bad turning in my claim...but then thought.."Oh...what the heck....I been paying insurance all these years....might as well claim it." My insurance company didn't hassle me a bit. I think it was Nationwide.

As for your flotation foam...the gas will eventually melt it, if it hasn't started to already. You can find 4X8 sheets of styrofoam at Home Depot. they come in different thicknesses, and are not too expensive...seems like 6,7,8, bucks a sheet or so...you may want to ad that in on your insurance claim if it isn't to late.

Hope you get another motor soon!!

Bummer.

Talon, that sucks...nothing worse that motor stealing scum...what sucks more is your lost time next week...might've been a 50#+ waiting for you..

Don't know if this would help you, but after hearing the stories about people getting their motors stolen, I bought a Motor Lock for my kicker.

It costs around $20-$25 bones and locks the bolt handles so they can't be turned to loosen the mounts...I got mine at Steven's, but, I have seen them at Fishermans in O.C....

I don't know how it would work, though, if your kicker is bolted on...

Hope this helps, at least for next time...

Talons,
FM is right about the foam. If you have boatowners insurance (as noted homeowner's policies are limited in scope) find out if it covers not only theft but damage to the boat caused from the theft (i.e. fuel in floatation). You will be paying your deductible but most reputable companies will cover this.

Point for everybody with a boat policy. Check your coverage page because what you see is what you have covered. Make sure your motors and other expensive equipment is listed individually. Most policies only provide minimal coverage for unattached equipment (but you can always buy more).

Don't expect your homeowners policy to provide more than maybe 500-1000 in coverage for any boat or trailer (and you have a separate deductible for that).

And Fear no Fish's point about a careless "ash"...that'll just get your claimed denied and you in hot water.

I have been through all this myself and these are the things I've learned.

Hope this helps.

Next time motor lock definatly. However this time I had it bolted on the boat and both of the bolts had double lock nuts on it for this extra safety. I hate low life drug addicted non fishing scum bags!
So long 50 pound Tillamook King for me this year.

Do you think that the insurance company will pay for say a week of guided fishing since I can not use my boat? Hmmmm very interesting.

Well now that the boat is dry I can call the police and have the boat fingerprinted. I bet it will be a waste of time but what ever. The shop that the baot is in smells like a gas tank. I hope the heater dosen't cause a fire.

What really ****** me off is the Rino lining that I had installed how has bubbled and pealed where the gas/water mix had touched it..

I now will have to get a quote to have all this work repaired or replaced. I hope the insurance will accept the replacement of the foam insulation.

Advice of the week:
Lock up the motors and run over motor theives.

Why can't you use the word P@sssed in this board. It is a simple adjective that is used on the radio, TV and all other forms of speach. I think that this board is restricting our freedom of speech and constitutional rights a little heavy. Just my opinion do not take out of context please. I can understand the deletion of words when there is verbal abuse targeting somebody but come on I am purley trying to let my fellow Ifishers know how mad I am. How mad am I? Well lets say that I am mad, now lets say that I am really boiling mad. As you can see you need the adjectives to make a point.

Please relax a little as you have heard on you TV even the president used this word when addressing the nation.

Just my opinion

Actually, it is a word that just sounds bad to me.
But since you are the crowd and I am only one, I will change it and just try not to read it!

OK, I changed it! Now you can say ******. YOW!!! THAT HURT!
I would be "that" too if I were you, and I am so sorry for your bad fortune.
I will go and change a couple other commonly used words too.
However.... I have seen a lot of changes in this world in my time, and I can't say that the United States is better for them.
What used to 'shock' is now common.
The theft that you described is now common also, and happens all the time without thought.
Are we headed in the right direction?

When I can't use ******, I use irrigated. It seems to work for me, and most people get the point.
Sorry about your motor etc. I am always hoping to catch the lowlifes who have ripped me off in the past. The best I could do was chase some creeps away from my neighbors truck early one morning when they were trying to break into. I didn't have my gun at the time and the police were too slow showing up, so I chased them away before they got their slim jim to work.
Good luck finding your motor.

Talon: Sorry about your loss. For those who have not listed their boat equipment under their homeowners it is not that expensive, but has to be listed to be covered.

Also, the point about the foam being replaced by buying house insulation. This is not the same foam and the stuff you buy at home depot will melt when exposed to gasoline. I think you should go to a boat dealer to get a quote as you will find the boat foam to be much more expensive to remove and replace if that is needed.

I believe if you remove the floor boards and wash the gas out or off the foam you should be ok as that foam is suppost to be impervious to gasoline.

Check it out before you put your claim in.

Good Luck.

Just to be a team player, make sure your aware of surroundings in your neighborhood. Get to know what looks out of place and pay attention when you take your garbage out at night or when your leaving early for work and the such. If we all payed more attention maybe we make our neighborhoods a little less likely to fall into the victim column.

I had my car broke into with the intent to steal it about three months ago. The broke my column housing, busted of my logic switch that controls everything and wrapped my tilt lever around the column. I live in a quite town on a well traveled and well lit street. Nobody seen or heard a thing??? This is the fourth time I've had my cars broke into over the last 10 years.

Keep your eyes peeled and protect your neighbors and hopefully they'll do the same for you.

Good luck Talons with your insurance company.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Just wanted toadd my .02 You can use some biodegradeable soap like sunlight diluted in water to cleanup the boat. I've had this happen to me also when aplastic tank got a fish hook stuck through it. It leaked 2 stroke all over the boat at buoy 10-not good. The dish washing liquid will emulsify the gas and make it so you can hose it out. You want to get it all out because it only takes a small amount of fuel mixed with water to blow your self up. When you miw water and fuel it causes excellerated evaporation and it takes only a hint of a spark to ruin your day. It always ma good idea to keep some of this soap on your boat incase this happens and also just for regular maintanance. The foam in your boat should be gas resistant. Hope this helps and good luck with the insurance.

Insurance covers everything in and on my boat, including the kicker. For a measly $100 bucks a year if I remember right. Pretty cheap if you think about it. How much would you spend if you went to Fisherman's and had to replace everything you have now that you have purchased over the years? Insurance probably would cover half of it, but at least it would be a start.
Talons and everybody else who has had their stuff rampaged by the crooks, I feel for you. I have been pretty fortunate over the years to only have had a few quarters, about 60 cd's and one window to replace, but I'm not even half way dead yet. Maybe my time will come........
