The water is still pretty cold 47 deg and muddy. Less than 18 inches of visibility. Lots of logs and debris in the water. But the fish are there if you are willing to work for them. Our boat had 13 fish for 10 hours of fishing. :excited:I did manage to land a brood trout that mesured :thisbig:29 inches and it was 11lbs 12oz. (had it weighed at Lake Stop store) only one fish larger was weighed in it was 12lbs 6oz.

Should have pics soon.

Nice work Gillfish! What was the lure/bait of choice?

I was using a smaller Ford Fender and a Sugar buns Fly tipped with a night crawler fished just under the surface. Like I said earlier, the water has very little visability.

My girlfriend and I are planning on heading out early tomorrow morning; first time fishing Hagg and third time I've been fishing since I was 10 (25 now). Anyone have any tips for fishing from the shore out there?

Nice job there, Gillfish! Most folks we chatted with (trolling) didn't do nearly as well as you did.

My nephew and I finished with one very large, black, white-striped and odiferous rodent. We tried lots of things - except 'a small ford fender with a stick fly' (or whatever it was). Doh!

It was still nice to get out on the water for the day. Anybody else see what looked like a T-6 (?) warbird buzzing the lake Saturday?

i noticed the plane. did a barrel role over the lake by the dam side. i've seen some pretty cool planes doing some pretty awesome maneuveurs over the lake over the last few years

Lucky to have someone who knew how to catch a fish in the mud at Haag today. That's the worst I've seen it and I wouldn't have even went if I had known ahead of time how bad it was!

If I HAD to go back, I would head to straight to the Scoggins Creek mouth and fish there all day. The water from the creek is a LOT clearer than the lake itself and we caught I think 7 of our fish there. Also saw 4 limits walk up the bank as we arrived. It did get slow enough for us to pick up and leave but kinda wished we had stayed due to how ugly the lake was. Except for this! George (Gillfish) fished some big blades and a "sugar bun" gizmo with a piece of worm and nailed this huge brooder. He saved the day!

Thanks for joining us and our lame jokes for the day George! Nice job on the monster- hope we can get together again in some nicer water. WOW, 11lbs.? We wondered if you stopped at the store. So is your pic posted there too? (Hope your son is sufficiently jealous:D)

Wow, Hagg sounds like the Sauvie Island of trout fishing.

The only difference is you trout fishers are a lot nicer to each other than us duck hunters!

Got to Hagg at about 9am launched from ramp A, got the boat inspection out of the way ( Law Enforcement was thick like locust) the ramp was a zoo but I expected that on opening weekend. Saw right away what everyone said about muddy water and debri and was shocked that the lake was still a good 15ft down Later this year its going to be a big mud hole just my thought on it, The weather was great just a few passing clouds water temp 42 or so. trolled everything I had in the box also fished off the bottom and bobbers and went from one end of the lake to the other but we got skunked saw 1 other fish boated they said at the store that they had several large fish 10lbs plus brought in today. By 3pm we were ready to go south wind picked up and alot of the debri had cleared but the boat ramp was once again a zoo and it did not help that the wood debri was pilling up at the boat ramp. Still a great day with the kid and got the webs off the boat and the new tackle box organized. Saw just about every type of floating device out there today I think even a bathtub....The sherriffs boat was out as well as the state police boat they were checking alot of people on the bank saw several tickets being handed out was nice to see for a change. Everyone was keeping a level head even with all the traffic. I dont think I will go out there again this year though If I have to drive that far I might as well go to Devils lake and catch alot more fish.:twocents:

Skunked again! Yesterday at St. Louis, today at Hagg.

Our lines were in the water at 7am (from the shore) but we didn't get nor see but one fish the entire 7 hours we were there. We were fishing near Scoggins creek, which I heard was the best spot this time of the year. Jenny stuck with the Chartreuse Powerbait and I tried various lures. We moved a couple times, but stayed in that general area of the lake. I think we should have probably moved a bit more, but this is our third time fishing :)

Lets put it this way. I offered to clean the fish this trip :D

I made the mistake of telling my kid that 9000 fish had recently been planted. He just couldn't understand why they were being so shy! Maybe they just didn't want to come to our place for dinner!!

trolled the south shore and picked up one sunday, trolled the north shore from A ramp west sunday afternoon and saw one caught trolling, trolled the south shore again monday am, bites but no fish, trolled the north shore from A west and landed one monday noon. pretty slow, but not a skunk either day. this turbidity will pass, the fish will start biting. coast guard told me there were a few caught right at 29 inches, every one I talked to that caught fish trolling said thay did it close to the surface. I was using a half brass ford fender with a short 16" leader to a wedding ring with a worm, trolled quickly to keep it near the surface. As clarity improves, I will go deeper and lengthen the leaders. thanks to all that have posted here!

Went out wed morning until noon, with not even a touch off the bank. I didn't even see anyone catch anything but snags, and floating debris. Fished near Scroggins creek, and up by the dam. Needs a little warmer water and it needs to clear up a little. Still early. I'll go back in a couple weeks

Same for me, fished the bank from 0700-1130 and no action at all. Saw one boat trolling catch a small one that is it. Was rather crowded when I left.

I caught 6 on Tuesday out of my pontoon boat around Sain creek. All were caught off of a #3 silver blue fox. I thought I had hooked a 10#+ fish but when I got it in it was a 12in that had about 50 yard of line hooked to him. Looks like he swallowed the hook and was tangled in the weeds. All fish were released so others can catch them. It was very slow until around 5 pm
