small ponds

i went on a field trip for my geology class, to the tonkin scab lands over by tuallitin high school. what it is, is a series of ponds that were left behind from big flood from montana thousands of years ago. anyways it looks like it would be great fishing for warm water fish, and there was a big dead fish floating close to the bank, so somebody put fish there at some time. i was wondering if anyone knows if it is legal to fish there and maybe bring a canoe? the pond looks prime for fishing but i never saw any sign of fishermen (littering)
