It went great as far as I was concerned. My boat landed three chinook, one 31.5 pounds and released two huge silvers. Lots of fish landed for the two day event. I was pleasantly surprised to get third place among the guides. A great bunch of individuals!! Maries shrimp scent struck again!! Added to Garibaldi Bait Black Label Herring, an unbeatable combination.

Moleman..... Have moles! Too many moles!!!
Bill is out ranting and raving at mole hills!
I'm afraid I'm losing due to mole madness!
Do you have a cure!?
I'm afraid I won't be able to walk in the field anymore due to mole mines!
The Rendevous was awesome!

Just got around to the Oregonian this morning ... Monroe reports that 60 registered anglers carded 20 fish on Thursday ... no word on Friday's take or who won the tournament. I guess it goes without saying that the OWHF is the big winner.

I think I'm going to hurl after reading Monroe's column in the Oregonian about the Rendesvous and the great catch of the guides who DID NOT PARTICIPATE BECAUSE THEY HAD PAYING CUSTOMERS! Bill, wake up, we all turned down paying customers to guide in the fund raiser. How about covering the tournament once and give a little free publicity to those who gave their time away? Personally I set aside the days of the tournament and will not book clients for those days. I'm sure most of the other guides do the same. We dont do it for the publicity but to imply in a "news" article that two well known and skillful paid guides went out and outfished the tournament guides somehow sticks in the craw. Taking nothing away from these guides, one point should be made. The tournament guides are not allowed to fish. They can only run the boat, tie the gear, and assist by direction. A number of years ago when my wife and I purchased a B&B in Alaska I asked Bill if maybe we could get a little plug in his column. He told me he couldnt do that because that would be a conflict and not fair to paid advertisers. I guess I'll have to take him fishing???? :depressed: :depressed:

I'm with you Capt. Hook. I too, thought Monroe's column was a real rip on those guides who not only passed up paying customers, but also extended the use of their expertise, boats, gear and bait. Not only are they supporting an outstanding organization that has, and continues to do great things for our salmon and steelhead fisheries, but they have brought the guides together for the good of the resource.

Personally, I'm embarassed for the guides he singled out as not participating. Goes to show that when you get right down to it, the almighty dollar still rules for some.

Bill and I typically agree on most fishery related issues - NOT THIS TIME. Monroe, you're out to lunch!

Bill told me his column got chopped/edited.
If you read it, you can kind of tell that is what happened.

I had already e-mailed Bill as soon as I read his column this morning.

If it was indeed edited to sound the way it did, I'd sure like him to share the whole story.

Go ahead Bill, post it here. We won't edit it!
