Has anyone been fishing for trout in salem lately? Have you been doing any good? I'm fishing from the bank. I'm thinking of heading out there later today or tomm.
Thanks

St. Louis ponds just opened today, and got stocked with 1000 keepers and 500 broodstock brook trout... that's where I'd be! :)

I tried to take my 6-year old there yesterday, but the gates were locked. A few cars were parked outside the gate, but the Marion County Sheriff's Department said that if the gate is closed, the lakes are considered closed. So, I'm not sure they even stocked it.
Anyone else have any current first-hand info?

The lakes opened today, an article in the Statesman said it was stocked with the brooders earlier and the 1000 smaller trout went in today to kick off the season. See yesterday's sports page.

I had some success with powerbait and salmon eggs. I saw a few 12"-14" taken but I could only manage the stocked trouts. What worked for me is changing every 10 mins until something hit then stick with it. Its a lot of work but seem to do ok for me. you can either sit on the bottom or bobber i saw both ways catching fish. Good luck I might be heading out there tomorrow. Since hagg was a disappointment today
