View Full Version : Best Place to Stay at Odell in July?
We're talking about a July trip to Odell Lake for family fun including kokanee fishing. I've never been there and I'm a little confused about the best place to camp or rent. We're willing to tent camp but are open to a cabin or room as well. What is best and closest to good kokanee fishing? Thanks.

Sunset Cove campground has the best boat ramp, and some really nice docks -- try to get there well before any Friday afternoon though, as it fills up quick. Princess Creek campground has a crummy ramp and docks, and no moorage, but has less afternoon wave action, being closer to the prevailing lee end of the lake. I recommend bringing good mooring gear for your boat. Or stay at Odell Resort on the east end, or Shelter Cove on the west end, and reserve a boat slip. Have a great time, and give us a report!

For those of us with small (12'-15') aluminum boats, Princess Creek is a great place to camp. It's close to the middle of the lake and many of the sites are suitable for tent camping. There are plenty of lakeside spots and since you'll be camped close to the boat it doesn't have to be completely stripped every evening. In the morning, straight out from the boat ramp is a good starting point for kokes and macs. If the kids have bicycles, the road loop around the campground is a safe place for them to ride.
Wind and waves are always a factor at Odell and as moknots pointed out there are probably better choices for the folks with bigger boats. Odell is one of most consistent fishing lakes for kokes and macs and July is a great time to visit it. Look for a fat guy wearing a big hat in a 12' Gregor (ifish stickers too) and say hi!

Kokanee Lodge at Shelter Cove
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I can't believe it's only March. I'm ready for summer now.

Kokanee Lodge at Shelter Cove
Buck:
Shelter Cove is going to answer all your questions. Cabins, rooms, spaces for tent camping in their RV Park, and close to good kokanee fishing. It will be problematic to reserve if you wait too long/late. There are also "private" cabins at the west end of the lake that are available to stay in.

I'm surprised nobody said Trapper Creek Campground. Its on the calmest side, right out from the best jigging spots, beautiful, no highway noise (there are trains) a nice small boat ramp and you can pull your boat on shore and tie off to a tree safely and securely on the lakeside spots.:twocents:
