FEAR NO FISH!

The prosecuting attorney has taken an interest in the bomb threat. We found out that he had filed charges against the two boys, while we were watching the local news. Usually they keep juvenile names out of the news. My wife just about chit when she heard Jake's name. It would have been nice to find out with a phone call rather than tv. $2500.OO dollars for an attorney, another possible $500-$1000 for a competency study on the boy. Ka-Ching! If convicted they might put the boy into a juvenile detention facility for 4 weeks. I would hate to see this as he would be a mouse among the wolves. The chit is getting deeper!

Wheeww, FNF, time to sit down and discuss a plan with the other half.

Your step-son has been exposed to the legal system which is not good. There will be many more expenses come down the road than what you think. Expect substantially more that $2500 for an attorney as this incident will have some far reaching complication beyond what you imagine! I'm not trying to paint a dismal picture but rather trying to prepare you for what may be ahead.

As a suggestion, you may want to have a seperate attorney for your step-son and one for you and your wife. Given the circumstances and the timing of this alleged incident, you need to protect all interests. I know in your past posts you indicated your step-son is a good kid, but in prosecuters eyes, he is just a trouble maker that did the wrong thing at the wrong time and could possibly try to make an example out of him. I know this sounds harsh, but I do have experience in this realm.

Your interest should be to help him in the long term, in other words try and negotiate a plea with the prosecuters which will not have a long term impact for your step-son and that the charges, if proven, can be exponged. Please understand I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe you should be prepared for the worst especially if you learned about this from the media and not personally. Your step-son has been exposed by the media which is why I dislike the media so much, but the fact is people have seen this and again, given all the terroist activity we have seen, this is not good. Please be prepared.

If you or your wife would like to discuss this with me and my wife, please email me and we will connect.

Our hearts pour out to you and we will be praying about this this weekend.

Thank you FM2. I had a feeling this was the way things were going to go. Already the attorney has gotten a continuance in order for us to pick our own individuals to do the compentency study. I know the boy had no idea of the consequences of his actions. I hope the judge will feel this way too. Maybe I can talk him into going fishing with me and help him catch some huge steelhead? Thank god the fishing has been excellent!

I hate to add to the discomfort but the one thing that FM2 did not address is the chance of pulling a true bottom feeder for an attorney. Money is really the issue with these guys. Try to network
through your circle of friends to get a line on one. There are lots of good honest folks in the profession, its just that they are a minority. Good Luck

Dang FNF, I have no pearls of wisdom here. But I like you and have enjoyed the times we have met on or near the water. The biggest thing in my mind is don't let this affect your relationship with your wife, if need be get away with her..I can't imagine the stress...wow! I have a B&B on Puget Sound that I do some work with...maybe I could line you guys up for some time if you need it.

Other than that our prayers are with you guys.

FNF,
I'm guessing that the local TV station probably did not know that you had not been notified. In our part of the state especially, the TV media conveys to us, it's audience, that they are willing to protect local individuals.
Your stepson made a mistake, and in the light of the current terrorist environment, the prosecuting attorney probably thinks it is in our best interest to be tough on crime. That's usually politically correct on a superficial level.
Go down to the TV station, talk to them about them reporting a minor's suspect's name. Check with your attorney, it might even be illegal if formal charges had not been filed at that time.
Get friends to call and write letters or send email to both the TV station and the prosecuting attorney. The state is trying to strike back at someone who caused them expense and embarrasment.
Which TV station aired the report and what night did they air it? I'll give them a call. Maybe they can be convinced to give some public support. Of course that will take a little effort. Solicit help from Jake's school counselor. Maybe this can be defused. Email or call me today.

Fear, hope this ends as smoothly as possible, and not much more expensive. Tell him you'll sit too close to the Albino Rhino on HIS side. That will square him away. Seriously, hope this goes away soon and the "shock" of it all is a wake up call. When can we catch some Walleye somewhere?

Bigshark,
We have to play the cards were dealt with.
******! Now we have to play the legal game out. Trouble is the legal game has such high stakes.
Jim,
The Vikings are in sad shape also. The only good thing going on right now is steelheading. Tally so far 188 on, 138 landed! What a steelhead season! Springers are only 4.5 months away!!! I can't wait to see you down on the Wind.
******,
If steelheading would just slow down, I will be chasing Perch on Scootney reservoir. Just love the taste of those critters. I have too much walleye. My wife and I need to take a trip. I can deliver you a bunch.
Vinny,
Dress warm! Layers are the key. You need to taste some of the springers I have smoked and canned. Tastes better than sex. Can I say that here?
